It's still not very safe here in Mumbai with regard to COVID-19, where the numbers are the highest as compared to other cities in India. We have been continuing our work throughout the lockdown till date.

In September, all the women but one at the shelter had contracted COVID and were admitted to the hospital immediately.  They have all recovered and are back at the shelter.

The young women and vulnerable families still require support as not everyone is employed still and are facing challenges to earn even a day's meal.

We will keep our campaign going until the need for support continues.

Thank you to all the supporters for their generous donation, which have enabled the homeless young women and vulnerable families to lead their lives with dignity.

We would like to take moment here and appreciate all the support that we have seen. A BIG THANK YOU TO YOU for your assistance, especially during these difficult times.

We want to share with you Mithila's story, for you to be able to understand better, how our interventions are taking place during the lockdown.

Here we would like to share with you Mithila's* story:

Mithila contacted us through Instagram, after which we communicated with her via messages since it was not safe for her to talk. She and her mother had been kept under house arrest by her father who was threatening to kill them as soon as the lockdown was over. He had been abusing her mother for the 25 years and it had gotten worse during the pandemic. We contacted the One Stop Centre in her area, who then rescued both the daughter and mother and made arrangements for them to stay in a safe shelter space. URJA is now supporting her in her legal processes against her father.

This is just one of the many stories that we have come across, highlighting the tough and life-threatening situation that women face.
