Fundraise for a Cause with Milaap : the Best Crowdfunding | Milaap
3rd November 2017
Hi all,

Thanks a lot for your support and blessings. There is GOOD NEWS to share.

Pavithra has recovered considerably and today (3rd November) she is getting discharged from Asian Institute of Gastroenterology. This has become possible ONLY because of your blessings, support and encouragement.

After we shifted Pavithra to Asian Institute of Gastroenterology on 30th October, Senior Dr. Mohan Ramchandani (Consultant Gastroenterologist) performed endoscopy and found large quantities of studded hook worms in Pavithra’s intestine. This was an unusual case because the worm infestation usually causes anemia but in Pavithra’s case it was the cause for heavy blood loss. Doctors were confident that she will recover without any complicated surgery and she may get discharged within 5 days. She will completely recover within 1 month.

Doctors were stating that Pavithra and Dasthagiri are Lambadis (Nomadic Tribal people) hailing from Lingal village in Nagarkurnool district near Mahboobnagar, they all may have this worm problem. This problem is caused through
  • Eating dirt
  • Not wearing chappals
  • Eating infested rice that is 5-6 years old and possibly infested with worms
So the doctor is also giving tablets to Dasthagiri and her mother. Also, they have been strictly warned to wear chappals.

Regarding funds, we want to maintain the transparency and we will give detailed account of all the costs through updates on Milaap.org. We have collected approximately 5 lakh Rupees from Milaap and various other sources. So far we are thinking of using the funds in the following manner.
  1. Treatment costs after we started helping – 1.5 lakhs
  2. Past Treatment costs – 2.5 lakhs – Dasthagiri had taken loan of Rs. 2.4 lakhs from his village at a high interest rate of 3% per month against the mortgage of his land. He has 2 daughters (Pavithra (5 yrs) and another daughter (4 yrs)) and 1 son (less than 6 months) – We will reimburse the amounts against the treatment bills for the past 40 days.
  3. Conduct an awareness camp and distribute medicines and chappals at Lingal village through Colourful Butterfly Foundation (NGO) – 75K
  4. Create Sukanya Samriddhi Account for Pavithra and her sister and deposit 20K in each. This money can be used only after they turn 18 years and the money earns tax free interest.
  5. Distribute the remaining funds to other similar campaigns
If you require any further information or have any other suggestions then please do send me an email on virag.shah@gmail.com

Dear Supporters,

Yesterday night doctors at Asian Institute of Gastroenterology were able to find a potential cause of the disease. Apparently, there are 100s of intestinal parasites in Pavithra's intestine which is causing heavy blood loss. Doctors are pursuing the treatment to cure the same for the next 4-5 days. She is currently admitted at Asian Institute of Gastroenterology, Somajiguda. Hence, we DO NOT foresee need of more funds for now.

Pavithra's father - Dasthagiri is very happy that we foresee her recovery now. Please do pray that she recovers quickly. Will keep you posted.

Thank you for all the love and support you have shown Pavithra.

Dear Supporters,

Thank you for your kind support, encouragement and blessings.

We had admitted Pavithra to NIMS on 26th October and the Radiologists performed Angiography on 27th. However, the reports were all normal and nothing significant was detected. We received the reports today (28th) afternoon. The report is attached on the main campaign page.

We then consulted various doctors at NIMS and Asian Institute of Gastroenterology. After a couple of follow-ups with Dr. Upendra Shava (Pediatric Gastroenterologist), they gave their consent to admit Pavithra to Asian Institute of Monday. They will perform Enteroscopy ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enteroscopy ) and try to find out the root cause of internal bleeding. Since, we have time till Monday, we may also be able to take second opinion from other doctors. Asian Institute of Gastroenterology is a renowned center for such cases.

Thank you all once again for providing the much needed financial support and blessings to Pavithra. She is a brave girl who have courageously gone through various procedures since the last 40 days. Despite of all the odds, she is still smiling and cheerful. Please see her latest photo from today (28th Oct) 1 pm.

We will keep you updated as she recovers. Please do pray for her quick recovery.
