Dear Well Wishers,

It was all going fine till last month, children were leading a happy and healthy life. For the first time in life, they got enrolled in schools and were about to give their first formal exams and to be promoted to the next class. However, the sudden outbreak of Corona Virus shed all their dreams and due to a nationwide lockdown of 21 days, their family’s sufferings have increased as lockdown led to the shutdown of all the factories/industries/commercial establishments, etc. which took away their livelihood.

These families cannot even run to their native places and are now dependent on people like us in order to feed their families.
This cannot be considered less than a national emergency situation as a large number of population is unemployed and have no proper facility of buying the basic necessities majorly food. We fear that if the situation remains the same, there health and immunity will degrade and a large population will be open to various other severe diseases if not CORONA. I was providing a one-time meal to more than 200 children and now I have more than 500 families which seek upon my help as I cannot differentiate between my children & their families and leaving others in this time of menace.

For a clear understanding, Let me mention few major points which will help you to imagine the scary situation they are facing in Jhuggi’s where on an average min 5 to 10 people are present in a family and are forced to remain at a very small area they call their home. Problems they are facing such as:

  • Scarcity of Food: They are in dire need of food to feed their families jobs have been taken away, no source of earning, no ration card(as they are migrated labours). It has become harder for them to feed a family consisting of 5 to 10 members.
  • No drinking Water Facility: There no water facility in these areas. Earlier they used to fetch water from various places nearby (500 mtr to 1km ) and now they get just one Van in a day making it harder to carry day to day routine. Now they are using dirty water for carrying on day to day routine work.

  • No Money -No earning sources left-Low Buying Capacity:  Maids are not allowed to enter into the societies and many of them have not received their salaries as their masters have left for their native places leaving them with no money and food. Price Hike of essential commodities by commercial shopkeepers are breaking their bones: Most of them are migrated labours and are not enrolled for ration card due to lack of documentation. They have left no option but to buy food on a double rate from the market.
  • Open to other diseases/illness/infections: As they are now living at home with less facility of water, sanitation etc. they are open to other diseases (organ-related )/illness/malnutrition due to unhygienic conditions, uncleanliness and using dirty water for carrying on day to day routine work  etc.
  • Lack of Knowledge and buying capacity of COVID-19 and protective measures such as masks, sanitizers, soaps, social distancing etc.
PROVIDING SOLUTION:
  • We are trying to handle the above by focussing on major issues by  distributing nutrition-rich meals such as readymade breakfast items and snacks such as Bread, butter, Milk, Biscuits and Namkeens, juice packets, fruits etc

  •  Raw and cooked(both or either) food for lunch and dinner, etc.
  •  We are also trying to provide them safe drinking water in some places.
  •  Also distributing essential protective and hygiene-related material such as masks, soaps & shampoos, Dettol & savlon bottles, antibacterial creams(so that small children remain safe from other bacterial infections), Sanitary Pads etc.

I am putting all my efforts to benefit all these families, listening to their needs and trying to fulfilling them but I fear that I may not be able to do it for long as the demands are getting high. Therefore, I would need your help to buy things and carry on my work when it is required most and I am doing it along with my job.

Hello,

Thank you all very much for your kind support. You all have been a big pillar of support for these children. We are providing daily meals to children regularly. I am updating very late as I have joined the office so I remain busy till late at night.
We are providing many other facilities for children along with education and food. On 14th and 15th july, we are having a grand annual cultural and Entertainment fest especially to uncover the talent of these children. Those who live nearby Ghaziabad and nearby are cordially invited to attend the event.
Thousands of children will participate in this event and food will be served to them. They will be awarded prizes and certificates as well.

Thanks and Regards
