Dear Supporters,

Every drop counts! Thank you donors for your love and support towards Padme.
Thank you donors for your love and support towards Padme.

Here is a snapshot of the work on the ground with our stakeholders in the adoption ecosystem in Chennai and Bengaluru.

1. We had our first intern from Azim Premji University. Srabanti Kayal, worked as an intern from May 25 - June 28, 2018.
  • She had initiated a field visit to the CCI’s ( Child Care Institutions) to understand the problems that a lot of the agencies are facing on the ground.
  • Preparing a report based on her findings have been useful to Padme, and we have forged excellent relationship with a couple of agencies.
  • Updating the content on the website, especially on special needs adoption in India
2. Padme organised 2 workshops for the medical community (Paediatricians, Gynaecologists, Counsellors). The workshops were held in Apollo Children’s Hospital, Chennai and Cloudnine Hospitals, Bengaluru and covered:

  • Sensitising the medical community on the new digital process
  • Paediatricians play  a pivotal role in the new adoption process
  • Helping parents in making informed decision especially when it comes to special needs adoption.
  • Child trafficking and parallel adoptions in India
Note: Both were successful workshops, and we are hoping to do more workshops in 2019.

3.  Guest Lecture at Mount Carmel College for students in Mass Communications .

3.  Meet the Experts in Adoption:
This was organized for Padme’s first anniversary in August in association For and Of Heart Babies at Lahe Lahe Bengaluru. We had Mr. Anand CEO of Shishu Mandir, Mr. Antony and Ms. Aloma Lobo, taking up queries from legal, counselling and from CCI’s perspective. It was attended by 60- 80 members.

4. November was Adoption Awareness Month and we had organised  a Panel Discussion in Chennai at Wandering Artist.
Our series on Everybody plays a part in celebrating the child. This session was on importance of counselling, medical and legal perspective in adoption

Media has taken notice of our work, and recently covered the panel discussion in Chennai recently,

Dear Supporters,

Every drop counts! Thank you donors for your love and support towards Padme.

Here is a snapshot of the work on the ground with our stakeholders in the adoption ecosystem in Chennai and Bengaluru.

We organised a panel discussion at the Bangalore International Centre with leading figures from the adoption, education and counselling ares including Dr. Aloma Lobo (ex-Chairperson, CARA), Ms. Sheila Ramasamy (NIMHANS) and Ms Anu Monga (Bangalore International School).  This was attended by a full house at the auditorium and comprised Prospective Adoptive Parents (PAPs) Adoptive Parents (APs) and interested citizens.

Another discussion was organised with paediatricians in Chennai to sensitise them to the needs and concerns of PAPs and APs. The discussion also covered the information necessary for paediatricians in terms of adoption processes and policy.

In our endeavour to change mindsets about adoption, we made a well-received presentation to the student participants of the Spark Mentors Spark Plug programme in Bengaluru.

Media has taken notice of our work, and recently been quoted  in an article on adoption in the Business Standard (http://www.business-standard.com/article/current-affairs/adopting-a-child-in-india-remains-a-tortuous-affair-despite-digitisation-118051101295_1.html) and on adoption children with special needs in The News Minute (https://www.thenewsminute.com/article/adopting-child-special-needs-how-change-attitude-can-transform-lives-81409).
