Dear Supporters,

Thank You

With the contributions received so far, we are presently undertaking two projects: (1) Transport by bus from Bhilwara, Rajasthan to Chitrakoot, UP for 20 workers and 25 children; and (2) Transport by air from Bengaluru, Karnataka to Raipur, Chattisgarh for 174 workers and their children, including several infants. The cost for transport by bus from Bhilwara to Chitrakoot is INR 1.2 lakhs, while the cost for transport by air from Bengaluru to Raipur is INR 16 lakhs.

We are facilitating the transport of the workers and supplying them with food, medical kits and sanitation packs that are necessary for the duration of the transit and its immediate aftermath.  In the process of arranging and organizing the transport of the workers, we have realized that various other supplementary provisions in the form of end-point pick up/drop off, protective gear and ration kits are also necessary to ensure a safe and secure transit of the workers, and we are working to provide each of these to the workers. We are also aiming to transfer an amount equivalent to INR 1000 to each worker, to assist in their immediate sustenance at the end of their long journey home.

With more funds being raised in the coming days, we can together create a much greater impact, potentially save lives, and certainly alleviate much suffering. Given that the Covid-19 crisis is not even close to abating, let alone past its peak, it is crucial that you continue to contribute generously to help those whose livelihoods and homes have suddenly been snatched away.

By way of an update, we are presently undertaking two projects: (1) Funding for transport by bus from Asind, Rajasthan to Chitrakoot, UP; and (2) Funding for transport by air from Bengaluru, Karnataka to Raipur, Chattisgarh.

Asind to Chitrakoot
Our collective, in collaboration with Jai Bhim Vikas Seva Sanstha is facilitating the travel of 9 migrant worker families comprising of 20 adults and 25 children from Bhilwara district, Rajasthan, to Chitrakoot, Uttar Pradesh. These are brick-kiln workers from Uttar Pradesh who had come to Rajasthan in search of work a few months ago. Due to lockdown when the brick kiln closed, they were left stranded on the road with little money and no shelter, water, and basic amenities. When we heard of them, unable to access inter-state public transport, they had already started on their long journey home on foot. The total cost for this project is INR 1.2 lakhs, which will fund travel, food and rations to sustain the workers when they get home.

Bengaluru to Raipur
174 workers and their children, including several infants, are in dire need of transport from Bengaluru to Raipur, a distance of 1373 kilometers. We are collaborating with Loving Migrant Workers Network (LMWN) and Samerth Charitable Trust (Samerth) to arrange for air travel on this route. The total cost for this project is INR 16 lakhs, which includes documentation, health screening and food during travel.
Your donations will help finance not just both these journeys home for these 209 workers, but also other logistical support that our partner organisations will provide including end point pick up/drop off, food, water, protective gear, ration kits and cash transfers to help sustain upon arrival at home (INR 1000 per worker).

The NALSAR alumni association expresses its heartfelt gratitude for your support, which has made these two projects possible. With more funds being raised in the coming days, we can together create a much greater impact, potentially save lives, and certainly alleviate much suffering. We are in the process of evaluating further priorities and making arrangements for further routes for transport, as well as food, medical supplies, and sanitary supplies. With your continued support, we can make a difference in the lives of many.
