Dear Supporters,

Thank you for your Support

We are extremely touched after seeing the kind of kindness that exists in the world. While all hopes seemed to be lost, as we looked at the mammoth task of supporting our 100+ employees with disability, then suddenly this amazing support poured in. We now know that we are not alone anymore. Our entire team of employees with disabilities are thrilled to see so much love pouring in to support them from across the country. As we share updates with our specially-abled employees, they are perplexed as to why people who we don’t know would want to help us. We told them that they believe in you and your dreams. They have asked us to invite all of you to our cafes once the cafes open. They insist everyone comes.

We are determined to support our employees with disability till the last mile but cannot do it without your support. Since Mitti Cafe started it has been a self -sustainable initiative month on month, without needing any external monetary support once a cafe starts. The heart-breaking bit with all our cafes is that none of the cafes will open till September /October. This leaves us with zero income. Since all our cafes are within corporates, even if the corporates open, they would not want food vendors to operate to avoid the crowd in cafeterias due to the fear of Corona Virus spreading. Perhaps only one main meal vendor will operate Even after the cafes open post-September, sales will drop by at least 50% with many working from home. Our employees with physical, intellectual and psychiatric disability cannot wait to come back to work and we do not have the heart to tell even one of them that they cannot continue to work with us despite being so dedicated.
Our employees have given their heart, soul and their best efforts to make Mitti café the symbol of love and hope. To tell even one of them that we need to let go of them is something we are having nightmares thinking of. We want to ensure this never happens and need your support to protect their dreams.

Each of them has overcome their own disability -Gauri doesn’t have eyes-her hard work and enthusiasm for working makes her stand out. She can catch you when you are happy or sad. Lakshmi can’t hear or speak and is raising her 2 children alone as a single mother after her husband left them, Murthy lost a hand and also his entire family in an accident, Kirti came crawling for the interview because her parents could not afford a wheelchair.today she sits on her wheelchair and manages 7 other people with disability. She is the manager of our first café. Hemant-he has cerebral palsy and has been saving his salary every month so that one day he will build his own house.

Their dreams are bigger than their disability. They believe in themselves, the compassion in people and want to earn with dignity.
Our cost to save Mitti Cafe by supporting the salaries of our 100+ employees( many of whom along with having a disability come from very low-income background/are the only member of the family ) comes to 1.3 crores for 9 months out of which we have raised donations through your support in Milaap. We need to raise 61 lakhs more to support our 116 employees with disabilities and ensure we don’t let go of any of them.
This includes rentals as we have rehabilitated a lot of our current employees who were living on the street /were begging( due to jobs not being available for them, who now work with us with dignity and permanently stay at our accommodation.
During the Corona Crises, we realized the plight of our migrant workers and homeless is heart-wrenching.

Our team of people with disabilities decided to do what they can and must for the country. We have served food and drinking water to 3500 people in need every day and have until now served over 2.73,000 meals.

In the next 15 days, we target to serve 1 lakh meals to our daily wage earners, migrant workers, and the homeless. These are cooked and distributed by our employees with physical, intellectual and psychiatric disability.

We have been helped by the community in cash and kind (through ration ) to continue the No Hunger initiative by our people. We are proud that once the homeless are now serving the homeless and our employees with disabilities stand for the country today.

Dear Supporters,

Thank you for your Support

After getting the love and support we have received from you.. all that we want to say is that Mitti Cafe belongs to the community and not us. The responsibility of this movement of economic independence and dignity belongs to the community. When the pandemic happened and we borrowed the last bit of savings from close family and friends to support our dedicated employees with disabilities, to be honest, we were scared and did not have the courage to convey the same situation to our wonderful employees. But that only happened for a while. Soon after we realized that our core belief of community participation to help save the dreams of our 100+ warriors will be tested and we will win. Milaap happened. And in 2 days we could raise our target for a month and 1 week towards supporting our employees. With our basic salaries of 9.6 lakh per month (after removing all rentals coming to over 15 lakhs ) that we could raise for, the struggle is longer since all our cafes in corporate cafeterias would be shut till September end, post which the sales would drop by 50%

We need support to ensure that we don’t let go of any of our employees with disabilities. Each of whom has put their heart and soul to the movement of inclusion while earning with dignity.

We are proud to say that our employees with disabilities are cooking and providing meals and drinking water to 3500 daily wage earners and the homeless every day. We have served over 2,53,000 meals till now which are prepared by our employees with disability.

Many of our employees with disabilities who were rehabilitated the street, trained, and placed with Mitti Cafe are now cooking and serving the homeless. We have been supported by the community for our No-hunger campaign, which makes us believe in the immense kindness of the world.

We look forward to more support from your end to enable us to help the needy to overcome this crisis. Please share the message among your friends, families, and colleagues to help us reach out to more and more people.
