Dear Supporters,

Life may be tough but Karishma is a miracle.

As always, we have some good news and some bad news. Let’s get down to the good news.

Finally, I am Covid negative but unfortunately, I couldn’t make antibodies which is the bad news. We checked twice and there were no antibodies at all. I am back into isolation and as we are prepping for the vaccination, my steroids are decreased to the minimum. My immunosuppressants (MMF) are back on.

So here is the bad news:

Covid unfortunately has caused some damage. I have long Covid, that in addition to my Lupus has managed to leave me in quite a state. Covid has managed to cause the following:

-  A part of my liver has failed
-  Damage in my heart
-  Pneumonia in my lungs
-  There is a problem in my lungs which we are yet to figure with the oxygen going into my body and the CO2 coming out. We are still trying to figure out the extent of this damage
-  Massive damage in my muscles
-  Lost functionality in my nerves
- Some problem in the blood
-  Lost functionality in my bones since I already have Osteoporosis so that's worse

When I got covid, unfortunately, I could not be treated at KDAH (Ambani) due to them throwing me out and I was shifted to Jaslok. In the middle of my covid, my entire panel of doctors got shifted from Ambani to Jaslok. The doctors in Jaslok felt that I have been mistreated. When I was in the ICU (HDU) at Jaslok for a week, that is when we also realized that while my right eye is already non-functional my left eye is also deteriorating at a very quick pace so we are trying to stop the damage in the left eye because it is quite drastically dropping. While in Jaslok I also was diagnosed with IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disorder) and unfortunately due to my long covid my migraines are back and my IUD has caused my internal and external bleeding to come back.

While in Ambani my seizures were brushed off but in Jaslok the first neurologist said that it was an SLE manifestation. But my rheumatologist wanted another opinion so the next doctor said that it was an epileptic seizure which can be fatal. We are now trying to talk to a new psychiatrist, gynecologist, and ophthalmologist while getting through all the other treatments changed. My motor and sensory abilities have been impaired. While I am at home, my oxygen levels keep fluctuating and at some points, I still require oxygen support. So thankfully, the cylinder that I have come in use instead of me rushing to an emergency and taking up a bed.

My immunosuppressants are back and within the next two to three weeks my chemotherapy is planned to begin. We have done an entire panel of tests which unfortunately are quite bad this time. Additionally, the possibility of Behcet’s is also being discussed among my new doctors. Now surmounting bills, not being able to work, new health conditions, chemotherapy, etc., have caused my condition to further deteriorate to a point even I could not imagine.

Two heart attacks in the past week at 30 have really freaked me out and now chemo. I don’t know how to accept this. While chemotherapy is something that I cannot get out of no matter what I do (I have made a PPT to show my doctors why they should not give me chemo, unfortunately, that did not work… HAHA!).

So as much as I understand that everyone is going through a rough phase here I am again asking those who can afford to and want to, please contribute whatever you can and share my link with whomever you can.

As you know that with these new conditions and treatment procedures, I have to also increase my goal amount. Therefore I kindly ask you to open the generosity of your heart and join me in this battle called life as every bit counts.

Thank you all,
With much love,
Karishma.

Dear Supporters,

This is a not-so-happy update. Unfortunately, my Lupus relapsed and along with it, I tested positive for Covid on April 19 although my symptoms began on the 14. Having multiple conditions active and Lupus among them makes my chances of fighting lesser compared to others. Currently, I've been told I have a 50% chance of survival and guaranteed organ damage which has already begun.

I have already been to the ER once last week and now have to be admitted to a hospital that can also simultaneously treat my Lupus and other conditions along with Covid. My saturation continues to drop and a home oxygen set-up is no longer enough.

With all this, I have rent, surmounting medical bills, hospital bills etc.

I understand we're all going through tough times but if you could contribute any amount at all, it would be much appreciated.

All my love,
Karishma

Dear Supporters,
Season's greetings!

I have some good news and some bad news this time.

The good: Milaap is no longer charging a platform fee for donations which means I get the entire amount donated.

We have also managed to save my left eye to a certain extent.
I also took up a full time job.

The bad:
- The job was making me worse and I had to let go of it
- I had issues that upon checking, showed ulcers in the small intestine. We're currently treating that and hoping it doesn't spread. Wee don't have a conclusive diagnosis but it is not malignant at this point

- We have still not been able to manage the hormonal problem.
- All this keep triggering flares of everything else.

With no job and insane medical bills and rent, I once again seek your generosity of you're in a position to.

Forever grateful,
Karishma
