The Joint Women’s Programme thanks all our donors for their trust and support to us. We are working very hard in reaching as many people as we can so that no one goes hungry in this time of crisis. We could not have achieved this without your support and generosity.

As India announced a sudden nationwide lockdown on the 25th of March 2020, an immediate fear and uncertainty consumed everyone. The people belonging to marginalised communities and low socio-economic backgrounds were severely going to be affected by the upcoming food crisis because of the lack of income flow. JWP’s field centre is located in the Nithari village in Noida. Most of the families in and around this area comprise of daily wage labourers, including construction workers, rickshaw pullers, mechanics, vegetable vendors, domestic workers etc. Most of these families depend on daily income for their livelihoods. With the onset of the lockdown, many of the workers were abandoned by the companies/shops they work for and did not have any reserve resources to dip into. Since we have been working in this area for nearly 13 years now, our local volunteers and community people reached out to us. Recognising the immediate need to act, we used our own resources to start the relief package distribution process. Our priority was also looking after vulnerable pregnant/lactating mothers and malnourished children. Owing to lack of public transportation and lockdown measures, it has been a struggle procuring milk, rations and vegetables for the distribution, but with help of our local partners and organisations, we have managed to impact nearly 4000 people so far, across various sectors in Noida. Our centre, Mera Sahara, is located in Sector 31, Noida and we have completed three distribution cycles there. One of our teachers of Mera Sahara lives in Sector 123, Noida,  and helped us coordinate the relief distribution there, and we have completed three cycles there as well. Rest from 31/03/2020 till 24/04/2020, we have distributed relief packages in Sector 67, Sector 56, Sector 57, Khoda Colony, Sector 8, and Sector 150 of Noida. Our focus has been to provide dry rations like rice, dal, atta, spices, sugar, salt, oil, tea, along with milk powder for pregnant/lactating mothers and infants. We also include vegetables and fruits wherever possible. We have partnered with some women’s organisations who make cotton sanitary pads. We have started the distribution of these sustainable cotton pads in Nithari, Noida, which last upto two years. We are also trying to distribute the ration and food items in paper bags, instead of plastic wherever possible. We will keep sharing more photos and updates as we continue with our relief work.

Once again, we thank you for your support and trust in us. If you are happy with our efforts, we would kindly request you to share this in your groups and support us in reaching more people in distress.
