Our different state unions have been closely working with communities and stakeholders on multiple levels. Glimpses of various initiatives are as followed:

Food kit distribution - SEWA Delhi is closely working in coordination with the State Government of Delhi in supporting families affected with COVID-19. The government had announced the disbursement of rations through the Public Distribution System (PDS) but unfortunately, many people were excluded as they did not have ration cards. Our team members of Sewa Delhi with the support of our donors, other non-profit organizations and govt. agencies distributed 400 ration kits in New Ashok Nagar and Sunder Nagri through our community centers (Sewa Shakti Kendra) in the area. Our team distributed the ration kits to the women of the household ensuring there is no doubling. Aagewans, individually or in small groups prepared meals and distributed to families in need (Dehradun)

Masks productions & distribution  - Our Delhi based women-led garment producer company ‘Ruaab’ started stitching & manufacturing protective masks at bulk to immediate supply needs. SEWA union at Uttarakhand stitched and distributed to around 60 households in need, especially to migrant workers returning to their villages from COVID affected areas.

Awareness campaign & Information dissemination - Our teams in Delhi & Uttarakhand along with Aagewans took initiatives to spread awareness about COVID-19 through putting up posters in the public spaces like ration shops, door to door awareness sessions, information dissemination by Aagewans through WhatsApp in their mohallas and communities.
Our team at Uttarakhand Identified migrants returning from COVID affected areas and reported them at block administration to seek appropriate preventive measures. In Sult, due to timely reporting by a community leader, doctors from block-level hospitals visited and over 80 people were checked for COVID symptoms, 2 have been quarantined in medical facilities.

Data collection, cash transfers & scheme linkages - Our team members along with Aagewans have created comprehensive lists of families in different localities who do not possess requisite documents to ensure support under PDS and coordinated with the local government institutions for the scheme linkages & distribution of free meals and ration. We also  Identified families in crisis with urgent needs and connected them with individual donors for direct cash transfer/supplies distribution
