Dear Supporters,
We thank you all for your support.

Turnstone Global (National Association For the Blind- WB Chapter) runs an informal school at Ultadanga, one of the biggest slum areas in Kolkata. Their teachers have been tirelessly working to get the children back to school. One common reason for drop outs is lack of menstrual awareness. Once the girls attain puberty they are mostly not sent to school. In many cases these girls are married off even before they are 18. TCS Purpose4life Volunteers in Kolkata have been working with them for the past 3 years and it has been heartening to see the increase in school enrollments/drastic reduction in dropout rates.
On occasion of International Women’s day-  TCS volunteers arranged for an awareness session for the young girls and women of this area- on health, hygiene and awareness. The session was conducted by Dr Pallab Kanti Nath, a practicing gynecologist from Calcutta Medical college. The session was conducted in 2 parts - 1st part on menstruation which was attended by all & 2nd part on safe contraceptive practices & family planning for the married women.
There were around 80 participants & it was great to see them participate whole heartedly. There were so many questions we are very grateful to the doctor for patiently hearing them all out & responding appropriately.

The TCS associates also participated enthusiastically. Sanitary pads were distributed to all the participants. As the session came to a close, all TCS volunteers also felt this was a really informative session for them. The feedback from the women and the NGO has been very encouraging- follow up sessions on adult education and sound financial practices for women have already been planned, based on suggestions from the women who attended and the volunteers.

As the exams got over it was time for some fun for the kids after a couple of stress filled weeks.  A drawing competition was organised for the kids and they were given full freedom to draw whatever they like.

The kids came up with some amazing drawing full of colour and hope.Later some stationery was also distributed among them. Another Poetry Recitation competition is lined up next.

We are also looking for volunteers who can give drawing lessons or teach them making handicrafts. Please get in touch if you want to volunteer. Thank you for supporting the cause.

Dear Supporters,

We are withdrawing a portion of the fund which has been raised through your support.

This fund will go towards the salary of teachers at the Ultadanga, Basanti Colony nonformal school. We also plan to buy used computers/desktops/laptops to make the kid's basic computer literates.

As the exams for the kids are nearing the end we plan for a fun-filled break for them in the coming days with storytelling session, movie screening and a visit to the Indian Museum.

Please do connect if you want to volunteer or contribute through books/stationary/old used desktops/warm clothes.

Thank you all for your support and we hope to have your continuous support in our future endeavors as well.
