Dear Supporter,

8th November This week…
Rani came back for 2 weeks, the gang took a day or so to adjust but things are back to normal, Rani fights Bubble for dominance constantly, plays rough and naturally with Rossi,

has had a few head to head with Duster ( who’s getting stronger every day..she doesn’t always win), Rani bullies Yang and on occasion has made the mistake of taking on Polo.

Ying with Yang on their last afternoon together.

There was further pack realignment when Ying was adopted, leading to Duster being in the mix more and Yang more alone. Yang is soft in nature and more of a pet always alert to where I am waits for me if I'm out.

I have introduced her to the insiders, Wendy and Winston and am hoping she will be their big sis.
Wanda has found a lovely home near the hospital where I have the sterilizations done. So Winston lost his more energetic playmate and has taken to demanding more attention from me while Wanda is resting!! They have all had their second flea injection & once they have been wormed again and their coats are healthy e shall get the 6-week multi vaccine.

Wanda leaving, Wendy patting Wanda’s back and wee mousy Buddha belly Winston.

We haven’t seen our viper again and the three Peru, Panama  & Serb are a little bored but quite happy in their territory. I have been trying to get the anti-venom all week so that in a worst-case scenario we’d be prepared. I will visit Dr Giresh at the hospital and ask him today. On Tuesday through Peru decided to show she was no fool and led the other 2 out, dug a tunnel easily under the fence by the pond that’s due to be fixed.. I was cooking but luckily an amazon courier rang from the gate. I emerged to see the 3 blissfully exploring, there followed 10 minutes of mine trying to get Peru to obey,  while the 3 raced  around wagging their tails and laughing at me ,,,it was only when I sat on the ground with the leads in front of me that the 3 feckers came to me!!! Anyhow, I added to the temporary block with all the bricks and wood I could find and reminded the builders (on a roofing job) to come. They eventually came on Thursday, a full day without electricity and no warning, no one answering the phone at the board..the power was off all day! So the fence that we’d taken down by the pond had to be put up..and only the odd jobs could be done..waste of 1900 the days pay but no-one to blame. We are hoping they will come today, Friday.
The amazon courier has been bringing me to surprise anonymously sent gifts…from our amazon moving list. I got a wonderful sickle that is really helping me keep the garden down am doing a section each day, prevent snakes and gardeners fees. We also bought more solar lights and some rechargeable mozzie zappers. Bella got the most lovely bowl that doesn’t slide ..she always had a problem with moving dishes.

I have discovered that cider vinegar mixed 1:3 with water is EXCELLENT at repelling ants and mozzies and is good for dogs coats so all sleeping areas now pong a bit!

Bella is truly in her element it’s great. She has the run of the place and lets everyone know it. Now that she isn’t scraping her limp hind legs on the tarmac like in the old place I can get her all white and fluffy again. She sleeps and sits up with me a lot on the back porch and I have added a soft mat to the wishlist for her as the bathmat she is using is small.
We haven’t found a home for Bubble yet and with everything going on or not going on I haven’t started training her.  I hope to start Monday, this weekend I aim if the workers come to move the middlers  (Rani, Polo, Bubble & Rossi )to their section.

Rossi, Polo & Rani are due their sterilisation have been trying to get the doctor all week. I have been promised a date today. We gave Rani her multi vaccine booster and rabies yesterday, Rossi got her multi vaccine we can do rabies after the op.

So the plan is to have Duster, Winston, Wendy and Yang in the run around the house, Polo, Bubble, Rani (or another week) and Rossi in the middle section and the 3 big ‘uns without an easy escape route in their quarters.
Polo is the problem not only is she not suited to being outside in the heat...hence here with the fan Gersten. Her fluff is too thick and she’s itchy..she also is really not suited to living in a pack of dogs...gets very snappy but has contained herself so far. She’s a companion dog and really just wants to travel and be beside me... I have done everything to get her a home and no go..got one offer o a guy who has no outside area, uses pads or toileting and already has 4 dogs she’d be going out o the frying pan..... I have asked for a grooming set on line

I plan to talk to a trainer in Ernakulam..he may be able to train her quickly she’s very obedient just wants me...SO I may be doing a separate appeal to over her training..although I have SO much more time now..pressure cooker and nicer home etc The villa is starting to pick up bookings (i have had time to boost it) and all that washing cleaning etc has to be done. I am rushing there now. I polo were trained she could come with me and just be my fluff shadow. The only option really..she will have to adjust in with Bella though at home.

Along the beach, I have managed 3 times this week. Have priced the pipes and bends or these feeders and know an auto driver who would fill them or a price, I am buying 2 lots today and going to experiment with how to attach them so they can’t be robbed or easily vandalised the plan is to try one here and on the beach so how they go next week. Then price them including filling...and advertise for sponsors. Would be small cost and then need to be regular small donations.

That's the lot I think or this week I have to all Santhoshi’s owner but that’s a whole different ballgame. I'm closing the campaign. Please follow us on supprt-peshna-turakhia-2..

Thank you,

Dear Supporters,

Here's the latest update. The property we were after on the beach road could not be leased. We wanted a lease agreement as the large sum given would then be returnable at the end of the lease term. So a lease would not only give us stability for over 11 months (standard rental agreement) but as the money is returnable, we hoped it would be easier to get donors. It turned out that The man leasing it has no proof of ownership..no written authority to rent or lease it. He has been renting it for over 5 years it was therefore assumed by all that he had some right to do so. We tried to find the owner but so far have been unable to. 50,000 was given as an advance thankfully it was done officially with a notary to stamp the note etc. We have filed a complaint with the police fraud of 50,000 and attempted fraud of 3,00,000.3 lakhs. For this I paid an advocate Rs 3000 but we have heard nothing in 6 weeks,So I am chasing him and have been to the police myself. I will continue till the money is returned.

This meant that while we had a late monsoon , all dogs inside, as our garden is the first place to flood, i was also trying to find another place for Tails.

it was often worse then this , the auto had to have the engine running or water would damage it.
I had secured a 3 lakh personal loan  on condition it was returned after 3 years and was hoping that some of the fundraiser could be used for all the other immediate expenses like fencing ,dog houses (Barney Bennet's), transport etc. Luckily miraculously we found somewhere, not in Cherai but very close in Paravur, Very grand house with a drive ..we are in the old house to the rear of it and have ample room for the dogs. A mother and daughter live in the house who speak English and have no issue with the dogs. The last tenants stayed for 10 years. The place is only 10 minutes walk from the veterinary hospital and very central, bus stop outside, the dogs are tucked away from humans.

The problems arising thus far have largely been due to my being on my own and not having enough time.
a) I don't have the time to make money or do anything really other then maintain Cherai tails page and look after the dogs
b).I don't have the money to invest in things that would save me time! Until recently  I didn't have a large pan to cook the meat in and i still only have a single gas ring.
c) a lot of time is spent finding the money to get through the next day sourcing today;s food affordably and cooking it. we normally feed a minimum of 20 a day it has been a lot more especially if you count pups..who need need chicken etc..
d) The cost of providing one good meal is high for chicken/fish alone at least Rs 500 ,Rice is Rs 30 a kilo we use 2.5 kilos then dhall etc...The fish rates vary significantly from day to day Rs 80 to 160 per kg and not always available, I used to get chicken liver but cant here anymore this should be possible in Paravur ...therefore I am looking to invest in a freezer... at the moment there are some special offers but normally under Rs15000.  The cost on the electric should be offset by the use of solar for most everything else. In time will look to have the freezer and fridge powered by solar,  A freezer would again save a lot of time I could cook just 3 days a week and freeze and buy when prices are attractive. It would also open the possibility to us collecting food waste from a hotel, freezing it and using it for the dogs.

The thinking is to invest in time savers and hopefully use that time to make money and pay the 3 lakh back over the 3 years..immediately there should be a pay back from the villa and from promoting tours etc locally. I have been doing these but not getting a fee which I need ...also a local lady and i are promoting the coconut cream ..this could make money need to sort out packaging etc. I need to use the time so that we get a drip by drip income. During this time we REALLY need people to sign up to donate regularly by standing orders however little this will help with budgeting and knowing how many tails I can accommodate before I get swamped again.

We are now in a situation where I have some good support as in a group of people who will assist me start projects that would help going self funding. .the projects being looked at at the moment are:-
1. Food waste for strays. The project aims to collect food waste from local eateries and provide to dogs in one territory. We will work with the local kudumbashrees (small well organised ladies group). The idea is to  SHOW how community dogs guard the territory keeping other dogs out, can be healthy and protective. It will mean sterilizing and vaccinating all dogs in that area, even the owned ones. we still have work to do on the information we need to provide and funding as the cost of sterilizations/vaccinations will be significant. But with small areas if this works...could be well.
2. I have been making an ayurveydic breakfast cereal that really suits those who want a healthy, quick sweet breakfast,We are looking to start a small enterprise  and promoting  to health conscious middle classes and yoga retreats etc... Packaging etc needs investigation but do-able as grants available for female and healthy and local producers. We can start small doing ourselves... natural- home-made fresh& healthy.

I gave a years rent in advance 84,000 . The ground was bush and so was cleared that took 2 workers 3 days..@850 a day a worker .
We had a lot of corrugated sheets thanks to Aimee who fund raised for them  2 years ago (we only buy what we can take with us!). These we placed in the areas that are the wettest  I did have to get more as there is a pond next to the dog house so spent a further Rs 8000 we also needed more bamboo poles.

1. The back garden divided the L shape with the white house to the right and behind the fence here is for the big dogs. The house is waterproof and will serve as one of their shelters. The section, rectangle in front of the fence with the trees is for the 6 week plus old pups. They will have barney Bennetts as shelters.

2. The far end in front of the back door there is a pond to the right.

3 . Here you can see the older dogs section and space behind the pups quarters, the house is to the right .I managed to get the pallets for Rs 100 each plus delivery we got 69 and it took 2 deliveries . 6900 plus 1500*2 for delivery. cheaper then buying the wood! But still Rs 10,000.

4. This is the area for the smaller pups. 6 weeks- 3 months.

5.The area around the house has a sheltered elevated bit, we are putting a fence around to the back so wee pups have space and are in/out.

6. The back gate missing on pups section men in front of older dogs bit.

7. The well is to the right of the back door this is how it looked before fencing started.

8. The front of the house to the left is where the small puppies area loops the house as you walk round.

9. View from back door to side of the house via the front small puppy patch.

10. From the side of the house to the back door, again small puppy patch.

The house is small which is great. The electrician did a days work putting in extra sockets etc and we have installed a solar generator that cost the same as a normal one..this will seriously help with electricity and allow us to recharge fans so the dogs have some cool air especially in the summer months for no cost! The electric at this house for 2 months was 2500 that's just fans, no ac washing machine etc so solar will save us straight away and also give us some relief with the frequent power cuts. We got the whole  solar system for 38000 same price as a normal invertor here. It will allow me to work through the frequent power cuts and should save a lot on the electric.

Thank You all for your support.
