Have you ever gone back to that old school of yours, seen those walls that were the canvas of your artistry, touched those wooden benches that were your playground during the breaks between two classes, and felt that you wanted to do something – something that would leave an imprint on the institution that has left its on your life forever? If yes, please do read this story of IIlyaraja “I am Ilayaraja, from a village close to Sevalaya. I lost my father when I was 11 years old and became a resident of Sevalaya's Boys Home. Thanks to the excellent education and grooming at Sevalaya, I am a senior software engineer in an IT Company, after 4 years with TCS. Now I have financial security and social status” That’s what Sevalaya (http://www.sevalaya.org/) does for many like Ilayaraja. Established on the ethos of Swami Vivekananda, in the remote Kasuva village near Tiruninravur in Tiruvallur District, North West of Chennai in Tamil Nadu, India, Sevalaya works with children like IIlyraja to help them find their foot in the society. Here is what Ilayaraja has to say about his school: “I regularly visit my school and even small changes do not miss me, as I know the place so well. Clearly, the buildings can do with a fresh coat of paint. I want the premises to reflect the high energy and the vibrancy of its children. Bright ambiance will pep up their spirits. Therefore, along with the Alumni, I have taken the responsibility to raise the funds required to buy the material and then paint the buildings ourselves. The Alumni is excited to participate in this "Giving back" initiative that will brighten up the place and the 1700 plus pairs of young eyes. I would request all my friends and Sevalaya's well-wishers to support this cause, since most of the Sevalaya Alumni are still studying and donot have the financial wherewithal to match their love and passion for Sevalaya.” If you have felt a little for the school that made you what you are, may be this is the chance to give back a little.
